Pre-PS: I'm going live tomorrow on Substack with Jill Riley to explore "The Power of Permission: Who you become when the old ways no longer work". Join us at 11 AM EST here.
A couple of months ago, I shared a post that unexpectedly took on a life of its own.
The note touched on something we’re all sensing — the recognition that women are primed to evolve beyond the noise of the status quo and are ready to reclaim their own voices. Powerful. Grounded. Certain.
I will share more about the themes I discovered from the responses to this post in a few weeks.
But for now, I want to share about a woman I met through that process, Jill Reilly.
When I connected with Jill on a private conversation, her grounded voice and message appealed to me. So I invited her to a public conversation about the notion of permission to become more.
What drew me to Jill and her work is her unapologetic stance: reach for potential, not status quo. In her book, she says that we need to tear up the old rulebook for what it means to be an adult — I agree!
If we’re going to drive our own growth and evolution, we’ve got to give ourselves permission to really make intentional choices — and make novel choices
So many of us are mindful that the old ways of operating no longer fit, and yet we’re not sure what’s next so we hold on instead of letting them go. Are we allowed to let them go? Who gives permission? Why does this matter?
✨ So tomorrow at 11 AM EST, Jill and I are sitting down for the first Boundless LeaderSelf — Live conversation on Substack.
A bit about Jill …
Jillian has spent over 30 years working in social, organizational, and individual change across Africa, Asia, and Central Europe. She is the author of The Ten Permissions, a framework for updating how we operate in the 21st century — especially in times that feel unstable, fast-moving, and unfamiliar.
Together, we’ll explore questions like:
- What does it actually mean to give ourselves permission when the world feels like it’s unraveling?
- How do we recognize when our default strategies are outdated — even if they once kept us safe?
- Are we truly free to consciously design new ways of living and leading, or are we more conditioned than we realize?
This isn’t a workshop or a lecture; it’s a live, unscripted conversation. You can show up and listen, ask questions, or simply to sit inside the inquiry as it unfolds.
If you feel drawn to conversations about becoming, emergence, and learning how to let go of the old without rushing to replace it, you’re invited to join us live!
FYI: There’s no registration link — Substack opens the live room right before we begin.
I hope to see you there!
We'll bring our all, you bring your curiosities :)
